First comes school, then comes marriage. It was Summer of 2015. Letty had been awarded a summer research scholarship at UC Irvine. That winter she was asked to prepare a research presentation for the donors and other recipients of the award. Letty planned and prepped a fabulous talk on her directorial debut with her theatre company, Brown Bag Theatre Co. Letty was slated to present last which if you know Letty, you always save the best for last. The presenter before Letty was called to present, Letty had never seen this 6’4 guy with glasses, Michael Dahan. Michael began presenting on the film project he had made. It seemed like a cool project, but whatever, nobody can or could upstage Letty. Michael ended his presentation by screening a super modern, hip trailer of his film that was made for the Tribeca Film Festival (no big deal), where the film had screened the year before. The trailer blew everyone away and Letty was crushed that she had to follow with her rinky-dink powerpoint. Letty immediately despised this person named, Michael Moshe Dahan. Letty, ever the professional, got up and captivated the room with her charm, charisma, and passion for LatinX theatre. By the end of the presentation, Tribeca Shmibeca…no one could think about fancy pants Michael Dahan because the brilliant, fabulous, Queen Letty García was the star of the show. After the presentations were over, Michael came up to Letty and asked “Who are you?!” and Letty said “I’m Letty García” and walked away. The rest is history. 

Well, not quite. Letty didn’t even think about Michael again until he showed up in her PhD seminar as a PhD recruit. Michael had been accepted into the same program and was considering his options. One day at school, he said, “You wanna have a salad with me, Letty Garcia?” and the rest was history.
